Comment (by FolioVision):

Thanks for the notes Rian. It supports what I've written three or four
 times on this thread.

The needs of screen reader users (blind users for example) are
'''completely different''' than non-screen reader users (sighted users).

Could we please, please focus on the '''needs of both groups''' instead of
'''kneecapping both''' of them. Yes, they are equal but they are not
identical. Treating them identical insults the needs of both.

We should offer a great solution to both groups, not a half solution to
 each.

 Coloured syntax. Rian you wrote:

there real value for the common user?

You bet. The unreliable existing visual editor (which breaks any complex
formatting you put into it) and equally unreliable drab text editor
included out of the box are disheartening. Who the heck wants to work with
 broken/inadequate tools?

Clear coloured presentation of source code makes it much easier to edit a
complex post or even for a beginner to determine what HTML tags are and
how they work. A visual editor which doesn't reformat the text and throw
out formatting on every save would be a boon as well for those trying to
create complex posts (see the goals of the Editor team to see the level of

 February 2013.

Why in 2017 are we shipping second rate software? I'm facing coders
quitting work as they are tired of working on WordPress as it's out of
date technology which refuses to move into the modern era and runs like
 late 2009 software.

What will it take to wake core up to modern technology and better
presentation? On the design side, core seems to want to stick to the
indecipherable shades of grey design fad which has been poisoning
readability on the internet for the last five years yet is already three
years behind the times (current design is strong and simple colours with
 clear contrast).

Let's try and get ahead of the wave or at least on it, ladies and
 gentlemen.
