Since y’all are talking about what I said and didn’t say; I routinely used
to verify the data against multiple sources, some public, some private, we
have builtwith, wappalyzer, friendly search engines, and yes sometimes I
have verified against .org numbers when I spoke to a team member of the
.org team that could see those numbers. Let’s not make this bigger than it
is; with Yoast we do get a lot of data from a lot of sides, the whole
point here is (and I’ve said from the beginning) that I think every plugin
author should get all the data .org has. It’s funny how @Cybr is trying to
make this about me when I’m on his side 😅

I do agree with @dd32 that the .org data might not be statistically /
completely correct, I think the trend is what matters.

The fact that @Cybr is mad that Yoast and Jetpack work together has
nothing to do with the topic at hand (especially so because the code he’s
pointing at didn’t get released). I guess he’s not realized that Yoast and
Automattic have been working together for what’s now decades. We have
(opt-in) tracking data, they have (opt-in) tracking data, and yes we can
both see that our user bases don’t overlap entirely. Every plugin author
could build tracking like that, and have their users opt in. Many big ones
do. I have literally been saying for years that that data should be coming
from .org and should be provided to every plugin author.
