Great questions!

All Themes hosted in the WordPress Themes Directory are licensed under GPL,
which means that you are free to do with them whatever you wish. The only
stipulation is that, if you redistribute the Theme, or if you modify it and
distribute your modifications, that all such distributions also be licensed
under GPL.

So:

1) Yes, you can modify the Theme, for personal, commercial, or any other use

2) You *do not* have to retain any content, including a Theme developer's
credit link or copyright notice.

(Note: the copyright notice and license declaration *do* need to be retained
in the Theme's style.css file header, in order to ensure that anyone else
who uses the Theme also knows its license terms.)
