[wp-hackers] Homeless Pingbacks

During a discussion on #wordpress this past evening, I was intrigued to hear of
a pingback being posted non-specifically to an article in the blog. The pingback
was sent to the URL of the blog and not to a specific URI.

I checked my own site, and found two examples of pingbacks that are attached to
a post from Nov 2003. Neither have anything to do with that post. So, it seems
to me that such pings should be handled in a more organized fashion. Perhaps
there needs to be a category created to hold these critters, so that they have a
place to call their own?

I'd be interested to hear some discussion on what to do with this lonely
pingbacks. Perhaps this has been, or is being addressed in 1.3 or future
releases? I'm in the dark about that.
