Comment:

 I’m currently of the opinion that this is not worth investing more
 resources into. What was originally thought to be a simple PR has turned
 out to have a number of negative consequences.

 While it’s great to strive for fully adhering to the project’s coding
 standards and guidelines, this is one of those situations where it may
 just be better to leave it as is. Since at least 12 contributors have
 spent time on this in the last 12 months, the opportunity cost here is
 likely taking resources from other, more impactful work.

 Leaving `2nd-opinion`, but marking as a `close` candidate for
 `maybelater`.
