 thanx for the ping.  Yeah, this totally dropped off my radar: at the time
 I did the patch I had a "day job" need for some kind of solution, then
 when my patch didn't get any kind of traction I found not ideal
 workarounds with what core already did.  In the intervening time, my day
 job need for that functionality has gone away...so, unfortunately, I don't
 even remember what those workarounds were.

 I'll have to go back and review the discussions that happened in
 [https://wordpress.slack.com/archives/C9695RJBW #core-privacy] and
 [https://wordpress.slack.com/archives/C03BVB47S #core-multisite] about
 this ticket to refresh my memory about why things stalled.

 I'd be willing to devote some time to work on a feature plugin...but
 **only if** others also commit to working on it with me, especially the
 conceptual questions around if/how various sites in a network are related
 to one another and what impact answers to those questions would have on
 any solution to this functionality.
