Comment:

 The 'fused' text was also reported on GB12293 and seems to have been fixed
 years ago, along with similar pasting issues.

 Pasting contents of the CVT doc worked for me today:
 - with Word 2016 and WordPress 6.8.1
 - with LibreOffice Writer and WordPress 6.9 trunk
