 Are you suggesting adding a slight abstraction layer for attachment data
 handling? Instead of directly querying post_meta for
 _wp_attachment_metadata and _wp_attached_file multiple times, this
 approach would involve creating abstracts and filters for getting and
 putting attachment data.
