 This would be my preference too, even if it has to be back-ported.

 As for the cause of the API starting to return differently, this was
 likely caused by the upgrade of nginx as noted, the
 [https://nginx.org/en/CHANGES nginx changelog] lists multiple header-
 combining changes in 1.23.0.
