 Nice! I personally prefer the second approach that utilizes the “jazzy”
 look because it's more harmonous with the style of the About page and is a
 nice tie-in with the jazz-themed release names.

 FYI I’m helping with the design for the
 [https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/54270 About page for WP 5.9] and
 am working on creating updated header artwork to give the page a fresh
 look for the new release. If we do go with direction 2, I would be happy
 to help create or share updated assets next week as the design gets more
 underway.

 @noisysocks This is defintely something to keep in mind — if we go with
 direction 2, hopefully we could design it in a templated way to make
 future updates as simple as possible. But I would also be onboard with a
 less stylized direction like the first approach if others think that's the
 best path forward.
