 I like @critterverse’s suggestion of hiding/showing the buttons, because I
 think it looks nice and feels intentional. It’s a bit outside the scope of
 the original issue, and the behavior change should be reviewed for
 accessibility, but my preference would be to pursue something in that
 direction?
