The colors proposed are beautiful. Nevertheless I missed the aspect of
this effort where the colors were not only reduced and made into
variables, but updated as well. I don't see that as fundamentally
problematic, nor a blocker for this effort to land. But I did want to
highlight that the block editor uses neutral grays, as part of this effort
https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/18667
The grayscale is perhaps the most re-used set of colors, across the
different themes, especially as the palettes gets reduced to primarily
grays and spot colors. For that reason, I would love to see the grays
converge with what the block editor does.
It also happens that the shades of gray currently used for the block
editor have a #f0f0f0 that is very close to the currently used background,
#f1f1f1. Here's a before/after https://cloudup.com/c6yY1OATMmY
