 Attached diff resolves two issues with the route not being found when a
 period is in the theme name.

 However, I'm still seeing an issue with the Site Editor not loading. The
 global styles get_item() request  gets called twice when loading the Site
 Editor and one of the calls has an empty post so the check fails.
