Comment:

 While this is something I'd love to see fixed as soon as possible in
 5.8.1, I am very hesitant to include this.

 I think once there's a solution everyone feels is going in a good
 direction, it should be called out in Dev Chat for further feedback, and
 it should sit in `trunk` for a while for more testing before it gets
 backported and included in a minor release.

 Punting to 5.8.2 with 5.8.1 RC in less than 24 hours.
