Comment:

 @amireshoon Welcome to trac.

 While it's true that some email providors (most notibly gmail) ignore dots
 in the name portion of an email address, It's not true for all email
 providers. [https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum
 /oaccount-omyinfo/does-the-dot-period-matter-in-outlook-emails/4bc7cd8c-
 55a0-4ad1-9819-9a19cf82a27d For example, when using a period in a
 Microsoft (outlook 365) email, it is treated as a different account.] An
 analays from [https://slate.com/technology/2013/08/dots-in-gmail-
 addresses-what-happens-if-you-leave-out-the-period.html slate] and
 usernames found:

 {{{
 DOTS MATTER: Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo Mail, Apple iCloud

 DOTS DON’T MATTER: Gmail, Facebook

 DOTS STRICTLY PROHIBITED: Twitter
 }}}

 I, therefore, don't think we can ignore periods in email addresses and am
 closing this request. Feel free to comment even though it's closed,
 especially if you have different information that shows it is in fact safe
 for us to ignore periods and this decision can always be reconsidered.
