 A valid concern, but no matter how we approach this, it _will_ cause
 ripples like this, jQuery has been in core for so long that it really is a
 matter of ripping the bandaid off, as they say, or never updating and
 committing to that.

 I suspect the use of `.live` will be the most common problem, as I seem to
 remember it was for jQuery in general when they removed that old function
 name in favor of `.on`.

 A quick list of plugins that appear to reference this

 is also possible to send a heads up to these specific authors, although
 the "Are your plugins ready for WordPress 5.5" email also goes out some
 time around now (shortly after the field guide is posted, pinging @ipstenu
 as she knows more about that than I)

 as well, that list can be seen at

 there's an email blast for theme authors, but they did get their own field
