Comment (by Clorith):
A valid concern, but no matter how we approach this, it _will_ cause
ripples like this, jQuery has been in core for so long that it really is a
matter of ripping the bandaid off, as they say, or never updating and
committing to that.
I suspect the use of `.live` will be the most common problem, as I seem to
remember it was for jQuery in general when they removed that old function
name in favor of `.on`.
A quick list of plugins that appear to reference this
https://wpdirectory.net/search/01EEHR8NG4D24DGHTGFF8N43QB with a list it
is also possible to send a heads up to these specific authors, although
the "Are your plugins ready for WordPress 5.5" email also goes out some
time around now (shortly after the field guide is posted, pinging @ipstenu
as she knows more about that than I)
And for completeness sake, there are themes that reference this function
as well, that list can be seen at
https://wpdirectory.net/search/01EEHRG42J39A12A0GHBY0CD3G, I don't think
there's an email blast for theme authors, but they did get their own field
fuide (https://make.wordpress.org/core/2020/07/30/themes-field-guide-
wordpress-5-5/) where I've asked to ahve the jQuery stuff added as well :)
