 Also,
 My original ticket #50034 was closed as a duplicate of this - and
 obviously this is the same issue.

 However this ticket sugges (by its title) the **"Ability to mark plugin as
 unmanaged"** which is quite the opposite of what I had intended. I very
 much want to manage my plugin. I simply want core to not let wp.org
 plugins supersede my plugin.

 A decision should be made about the way forward. And if a new direction is
 chosen - the title of this ticket should change to reflect that.
