 If this wasn't clear, my suggestion was to use the old jQuery+Migrate by
 default while plugin/theme authors are preparing, and perhaps switch to
 the opposite approach at a certain point in time.

 @azaozz suggested a migration path to latest jQuery, and his approach fits
 that direction, but others have suggested native JS instead, and
 personally, I think it's a far more sustainable path to take.

 Either way, my suggestion is complementary.
