 Hello @savvypop thanks for reporting back.

 I've had that happen myself when copy/pasting files accidentally or
 uploading a plugin multiple times. It sounds like you've cleaned them up
 for now and if more appear you can delete and hopefully determined
 original cause. If you find WordPress has an actual bug feel free to
 reopen this ticket but for now I'm going to close as you've found the
 duplicates in your filesystem there.
