 Good catch @timmydcrawford, indeed under this situation browsers will
 block API requests as mixed content.

 If there is something to fix here, we should do it in the PHP `rest_url`
 function instead.

 However this does seem like a misconfigured site to me.  @taijacg how did
 you set up HTTPS on this installation?
