Philosophies can be amended, much like the Constitution. It's okay to say
"We got this wrong the first time, here's an adjusted version of the
philosophy."
In any other field, if a professional is aware that a service they're
providing has an inherent issue (in our case, no security updates for the
last 6 years), they'd be liable for a a complaint being filed against them
to an ethical board and potentially having their license censured or
revoked, and potentially even legal action taken against them.
'''WordPress is knowingly not encouraging users who aren't aware of
security threats to continue to use a version of PHP that is not
maintained or supported anymore which may lead to their site being
compromised.''' WordPress is the "authority" or "expert" in this situation
and isn't taking measures to educate those users who are unaware there's
an issue in the first place.
This is ''not'' putting the users first.
