 Thanks to everyone for the feedback so far!

 I firmly believe anything related to widgets is out of scope for this
 feature. But the discussion around them, and the enthusiasm for using them
 more and making them better, is valuable. That's why I took the suggestion
 of @folletto and created a ticket for further discussion: #38248. I think
 the discussion started here should continue there.

 To focus the feature, and provide a scope that could be accomplished
 within the next week so it can have a chance to make it into 4.7, I'd like
 to see focus on the mock-ups created here:

 Not to say that all these other ideas aren't valuable, but I think it will
 be easier to iterate and experiment once we have something real.
