 I like this addition, but would it be possible to add a filter to by-pass
 this for specific plugins that are marked private? We use the WP update
 mechanism to update our plugins, and use existing WP filters to modify
 which url is used to both check for updates and retrieve updates.

 Perhaps this could be extended by adding a filter to modify the parsed
 plugin/theme header data?
