 I absolutely agree with this Morten.  When teaching WordPress to new
 users, it's hard enough to get them to wrap their heads around Pages vs
 Posts, without getting into the Post Formats concept.  This is especially
 true when, as you mentioned, the implementation can vary from theme to
 theme.

 Out of curiosity I checked the themes in the wordpress.org repo - less
 than half of them support post formats (assuming tagging is correct).
 This may or may not be valuable in the conversation, but thought I'd add
 that data point.
