 [changeset:"23842"] included the gist of my 20299-2.patch (with an
 improved 'get_post_metadata filter, nice work kovshenin).

 I think making `_wp_post_revision_meta_keys()` filterable, as well as
 adding some other core meta to the list (like thumbnail maybe) would solve
 this finally :).
