That's a good point. I think the solution would involve showing some kind
of message to explain why the editor isn't appearing. Which was one of
the first proposed changes to "page for posts":

If possible, maybe even still show the editor with the page's content but
have it grayed-out and not changeable, so people don't freak out and think
they're content is lost. And then just show a message like "The current
page template does not support the page editor." or something like that.
