 I'd agree with it if the function was on core and there was a checkbox in
 an admin page to enable filtering.

 But why can't plugin developers add links to their plugin sites with
 option to disable the link and option checked by default, and Wordpress
 can filter its name forcing us to use PHP code to disable it, without even
 a checkbox to be unchecked?
