Comment:

 I've contacted my host and they said mod_rewrite has been activated.
 Before I had my domain and it was just username.host.com I had the "data
 and name" based permalinks.
 So custom permalinks did work at once point, its only once I got a proper
 mysitename.com url that the permalinks stopped working.
