You’re mending my words to make me say things I didn’t say. I have on
occasion in the past seen raw active plugin install data (and nothing
more, the rest is our own opt in tracking) for our plugin, and checked
that against our own numbers and models. We started tracking our own data
at Yoast in 2013-2014 (see the above linked video) and can extrapolate
that and other data very reliably.
Please note that I’m no longer active at Yoast and have another role now,
so I can no longer speak for how the team does that specifically because I
don’t get into those details anymore.
Back to the issue at hand; I think WordPress.org should show the raw data
to everyone, because they have value. Mostly in the trend, but also in
the discrepancies.
