 The biggest benefit to these stats is to the author. More than once I’ve
 picked up an issue with a plugin I’ve updated when I’ve seen the installs
 fall. Unfortunately users don’t always tell you but statistics do

 I’d actually argue for complete transparency but if we can’t hVe that then
 the authors need this info back urgently
