 I am running a project that helps to sort out and organize different
 metrics connected with WP plugins.
 So, I'm communicating with lots of plugin developers, and they find the
 active installs growth metric extremely valuable.

 If there is a security issue, there should be a fix (or an alternative
 approach). Simply disabling it - can't be a long-term solution, it damages
 the community.
