[theme-reviewers] theme-reviewers Digest, Vol 20, Issue 32

Hi!

Just wanted to say that I am in agreement with the decision to disapprove the theme because http://www.knowhowto.com.au/ doesn't seem to be related to the theme - it's an unrelated blog. It's not the author's home page and doesn't tell me anything about new developments to the theme, what the author is working on, or alternate themes that the author provides.

Latif, as a suggestion, if you could have a blog post tag about the particular theme you are submitting or a blog post category on WP themes, I would find that most helpful as a blogger using your theme or as somebody looking at a blog and wanting to know more about the theme it is using from the footer. You can also use the footer link to take credit for the theme by pointing to your home page so people wanting some work done can contact you through your website for freelance work or look at your portfolio. If I see footer links for anything unrelevant, I would assume that the blog was hacked and the blog owner didn't do a good job of cleaning up after the hack. I hope this helps you understand how the WordPress community feels about the issue and why we insist on the use of relevant links.

Regards,
Nitin

Not that I am weighing in on this matter, but I am curious why this URI:
http://www.elegantthemes.com/ is not being used as the Author URI as it is
what is being displayed on the current landing page for the Author URI.
(forgive any mojojo ... not enough coffee yet)

P.S. Note that this is not site-specific issue, we need a general opinion

I like the approach taken by ThemeForest. Any PHP code which contains WordPress functionality must be released under the GPL, but the CSS/HTML/Javascript and images used in the theme are copyrighted by the theme author. That being said, I don't think most premium theme stores are in violation of the GPL.

TF most likely followed WP.org guides:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Review#Licensing
Themes are *required* to be 100% GPL-licensed, or use a GPL-compatible
license<http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/license-list.html#GPLCompatibleLicenses/>.
This includes all PHP, HTML, CSS, images, fonts, icons, and everything
else. *All* of the theme must be GPL-Compatible.
