If the license is GPL compatible, you're okay.

The MIT license is compatible, if by MIT you mean X11 or Expat.  There
are many "MIT" licenses.

Anyway, you must use a GPL compatible license.  If you want to avoid any
legal confusion, use the GPL.  And let me make a special note that
Creative Commons is not a software license.
