It depends on the details of the specific license. MIT have released
several licenses. Not all licenses using the name MIT to describe
themselves are compatible with the GPL. See
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/license-list.html#GPLCompatibleLicenses

I did note, however, that the distribution archive only includes a
copy of the GPL as far as I can see. I understand that this is a
modified version of the complete Wordpress distribution, but if the
additional code is under another license, then details of that license
must be included.
Further, if the new license is not compatible with the GPL then is is
nor permissible to  distribute a modified copy of Wordpress licensed
this way.

Sorry to put a downer on this, but it is important, and could mar what
sounds like another weapon in the war against spam.
