I've been hacking my version of WP and want to get involved here so I
can make the hacks more transparent, and possibly help add to the WP
code base.

* what you'd like to get out of this list 
An understanding of WP's direction and how to best integrate plug-ins
and changes to the code base.

I'm looking to create a PHP/MySQL based stats system that gives more
information.  It'd be instantiated via a plug-in and could be used in
and out of WP.  Inside of WP it would give more stats information than
the current stats plug-in which show total posts and comments.  Mine
would additionally show things like referring domains, total hits to
the page, etc.  More like full on web stats package stats...
