You are right. The best solution would be to have a single place for all
plugins & then they can be updated easily. That would also mean that the
users can lay their hands on all coolest plugins at one place rather
than run here & there & search for them.

what you suggest is pretty much exactly what it does, minus the
xml-parsing. it queries a file that is a matter of single-digit bytes
large... This may be a problem, but I don't believe so...

would be simpler to ensure a steady database...
