 Agree 100%. The old method of redirecting might be a bit over the top from
 a dev perspective, but you have made the plugin activate experience worse
 for regular people.

 If not revert (we all make mistakes, let's just undo and try again) Why
 not introduce a new single_activate hook or something for when only 1
 plugin is activated? Or an ajax message.

 To have an Activated message and the admin Menu doesn't even update is
 embarrassing.
