 I agree that this ticket is not the right place to discuss better
 alternatives for plugin onboarding, despite it being a valid and necessary
 discussion.

 Activating plugins via AJAX without reloading the page is breaking
 expected behavior, and I'm not sure whether this was considered when
 plugin dependencies were introduced.

 @afragen @costdev Can you share any context here you may have? So far I
 tend to think the AJAX activation part needs to be reverted.
