 I think it would be even more confusing if you then went and un-trashed
 the first post and it ended up as test-2 then its permalink would have
 changed and that isn't meant to happen.

 I wonder if the correct solution to this is to provide better feedback and
 make it more Poka-yoke so we would provide feedback as to why the best
 possible permalink wasn't being used (in all cases).

 Something small and visual next to the displayed permalink whenever it
 triggers the duplicate check we a message about the thing that triggered
 it in a pop-out or somesuch.
