Read my previous email to Otto, but in short my testing indicates that Google gives special consideration to blog posts.  Also you misunderstood my comment, I was talking about path depth, not URL length, at least not regarding Google. For example, #2 would rank better than #1 because #2 is in the root path:

	#1 /what/floats/very/tiny/rocks/
	#2 /what-floats-very-tiny-rocks-wood-and-witches/
