Vicky: In my opinion, you're absolutely right to edit out such crap.
There is a reason that the forum is moderated, and you live up to 
standards by your intervention.
Political or religious campaigners, bad language and personal attacks 
have other places.
Some people cannot tell the forum from their personal blogs, and so has 
to fostered a bit.
There are already quite a few fora completely degenerated by flame 
before reason, and we don't need that.
Personal style and some heat are good things and keeps you alert and 
amused, but concentration should on topic.
I think you are a good moderator but a bit modest.
