 There's also the WP_Rewrite class that WP uses.  It's really complicated,
 but maybe something like this is bound to be complicated.  Also,
 WP_Rewrite might show us what sort of features are nice to have that we
 haven't thought of (endpoints, custom feeds... (don't know if we need any
 of those)).

 One thing I want to make sure happens is some way of taking a URL, seeing
 if it refers to a single topic (or maybe even a single object of any
 kind?), and returning that topic if it does.

 !WordPress has {{{url_to_postid($url)}}} for that purpose.
