Comment:

 Tested against trunk (7.0-alpha). The existing patch no longer applies
 cleanly, so testing isn’t possible.

 Given this is an old enhancement (~10+ years) and there hasn’t been recent
 activity, it may be worth confirming whether introducing a WP_VERSION
 constant is still desired. As previously noted, core would also need to
 replace direct version.php includes for consistency.

 Removing `needs-testing` and adding `dev-feedback` and `reporter-feedback`
 to reassess the approach and confirm if this is still needed before
 investing time in refreshing the patch.
