 How are an entire 14 years we don't have a patch for this is actually
 crazy to me.

 I ran into this problem just last night and stumbled across a github post
 that led me here. Thankfully, the PHP plugin submitted here fixes the
 problem with a workaround, but like others have mentioned, this is not a
 permanent solution.

 Is anyone actually working on this? I may explore taking this on and see
 if I can get a solution put together.
