 Understood and that is my concern.

 WordPress is considered about services added to the allow list for this
 reason. As an external dependency they need to be stable to avoid breaking
 WordPress.

 By returning a 410 Gone response rather than migrating/redirecting to the
 new endpoint demonstrates a lack of stability.
