 I just found this ticket after noticing the same again on my site. It
 would be really nice if I could opt in to plugin/theme auto-updates by
 default, like you can do for core releases.

 Not a fan of adding a link or checkbox on the "Add New" screen. I'd rather
 suggest adding a link on the plugins page to change the default (like on
 Dashboard -> Updates).

 Additionally, we could change the default to opt-in for ''new
 installations''.
