 @azaozz I've been re-thinking this, do you think it's worth putting the
 [https://github.com/WordPress/wordpress-develop/pull/6635/files linked
 pull request], which dies gracefully for direct access, in as an interim
 step due to the use of `index.php`?

 The remaining issues can still be solved later but at least it will reduce
 noise in log files?
