 I tested [attachment:"40331.4.diff"] and it looks good to me.
 The changes are clear and well illustrated with screenshots.

 I agree with @joedolson this should go in soon so that any potential issue
 can be caught in time and patched.

 I noticed a couple long standing issues that are surfaced by this patch.
 I'd like to leave others to decide whether they should be addressed in
 this patch or separately. See following comment.
