It looks like everyone here agrees that we need a better solution. I have
thoughts, which I will add to #61040, about how we could make this all
better, but the current situation is... underwhelming from a UX point of
view, and I think we should just revert and then come back with a better
solution for everyone. I might add that even when we add a better solution
like the one proposed in #61040, we can't break the current flow for at
least a few more majors; we need to give all the plugins time to adjust.
The way I look at it this was a hard deprecation that wasn't announced
properly. We should only do those when security is at stake, I see no
reason to do them for anything else.
