Comment (by galbaras):
My sites are not overloaded to the point of database choking, and WP Cron
runs on a 15-minute schedule, so record locking is highly unlikely. Also,
the recent surge in this occurrence may be related to changes in the
(CloudLinux, PHP, WordPress, MySQL, Litespeed) software, rather than load
or concurrency.
Since the logged messages don't provide enough information, and the
actions may not be retried, in order to progress this issue, the WordPress
code needs to include better error handling and/or reporting propagation.
Personally, I don't feel comfortable contributing a patch, which may miss
things and have other repercussions, which is why I was hoping for core
team involvement.
On the other hand, I'll be willing to test proposed any code changes that
will allow better debugging, even if it means hacking my sites for a bit,
so if anyone has any suggestions, please share.
